Barcelona

So, just back from Holland and straight off again, this time to Barcelona. I’m so looking forward to this trip.

Any last minute advice would be most welcome – where to go, what to see, what to do and what to avoid! I’ve heard that the pickpocket situation is very bad out there so fingers crossed we stay one step ahead of the thieves.

Have you been?

  1. Take a look to touringbarcelonablog.wordpress.com

  2. John was there in February and says you absolutely must see La Sagrada Familia. If you zip up your valuables and keep them stowed tightly, then Las Ramblas should be a fine place to walk even with pickpockets. (I was there in 2011 and no problems but I didn’t carry a bag and had my wallet zipped up in an inner jacket pocket. I think just being alert is 90% of the battle.) The markets are fun there.

John also says Park Guell is good and a beautiful park that Gaudi created in 1901. It’s only a shell but the castle on Mont Juic has really nice views of the city. Restaurants are plentiful and easy to find. John says to definitely definitely try to ham, that they’re known for it. If you have time, Mont Seurrat is a 45 minute train ride away from the city and John says the cathedral is really interesting (you can look it up first) and it’s a mile and a half up so the views of the surrounding valleys and mountains are pretty amazing.

If the kids are with you and want something odd and funny in terms of pop culture, there’s a coffee shop/bar/pub called “Bharma” that’s dedicated to the show “Lost” and has a replica of the crashed plane in it plus all kinds of stuff from the show. They also do stuff tied into other shows now like “Game of Thrones”. http://www.bharma.com
