Etsy beckons at last

Hi Everyone

I started an Etsy shop last year and have finally started to list items on the site. I know lots of you out there sell online but I’ve never been sure how to go about this.

I’ve sold quite a lot of jewellery through the museum which has given me a confidence boost but I wanted an outlet for my more unusual pieces which probably appeal to a younger audience. Having said that, before they make it to the site they often get claimed as presents by family member(s).

If you sell on Etsy (or anywhere else for that matter) I’d appreciate any tips or insights you can offer. The shop is called PoolOfGems and if you just google ‘pool of gems’ I’m pretty sure you will find it easily enough. Actually, even if you don’t sell I’d be interested in any feedback you can give me.

I’m not planning to start trying to sell through this blog as I’ve built up a lovely group of wordpress friends and I don’t really like being marketed at myself, but your opinions would be very helpful. As you probably know by now I’m rubbish at links but I’ll give it a go  a href=”http://www.etsy.com/PoolOfGems ”

If you could let me know which items are most appealing and which are (in your opinion) a bit of a waste of time that would be great. Possibly even more useful would be ways to describe my jewellery. Any tips about tags would be good too.

Here’s my latest make:

  1. Hi Elaine! Good to see you posting on your blog again! You’ not going to have any problems selling your beautiful pieces on etsy. I’m glad you set up your shop! I wish I had selling tips for you, but I wasn’t so successful selling on etsy.

Thanks. To be honest I’m not sure I’ll do any better. Although I’ve been on there a while I haven’t had a lot of luck. Still, you can but try!

  2. I love love love the flower necklaces! I think you’ll have success on Etsy! Much luck!!!

  3. I see you have a sale! Yay. Try marketing creativity for some tips. If you can’t find her I will try to put a link up for you. I wish you loads of luck, your pieces are beautiful. X

Thank you so much. I’ll take a look. (That sale made me ridiculously happy.)

So far I’m finding that there is much more I don’t know than I do!

  4. Nice to see you getting active with the shop again Elaine! I’m not sure if this helps, but do you use Twitter? There are lots of groups that host random Twitter hours, where they use a particular hashtag (eg #crafts), and discuss their business, share items for sale etc. You might pick up a few tips there, or at least find a way to share your beauties with more potential customers… just type in #EtsyUK, or #handmade and see what comes up perhaps.

Thank you, that really does help. I haven’t looked at twitter at all and didn’t know about this. I’m in training for the new job tomorrow and off on holiday Weds so I’ll take a look asap.
